Consultant Experience
Use Your Skills for Good and Grow Professionally. Don’t just take our word for it, listen to what our Consultants have to say.

Executive Service Corps is an amazing organization. I was invited to join by a close friend of mine and it has been one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. ESC allows you the ability to grow your skills, and truly understand how to present to Boards of Directors. You may think that you don't have time or even, or I don't have the skills yet to really help. At first, I thought these things myself. But here is what I found. I found senior executives that are more than happy (eager in fact) to help you build your skills, interested in what you have to say, and earnestly great at helping you grow. If you truly want to make an impact, and if you are looking at your career thinking 'there is something more to give', reach out to the Executive Service Corps. It just might be the best decision you have ever made in your career. It was for me.

ESC's focus on non-profit organizations distinguishes it from other organizations which provide consulting services. ESC's consultants are sensitive to non-profits' unique values, missions and visions, which, in many ways, fundamentally differ from the missions and visions of for-profit organizations.

Volunteering time and talent to non-profit organizations is more than service; it's a strategic commitment and a pathway to democratizing innovation. As technology executives, we hold both the privilege and responsibility of translating innovation into meaningful impact. Whether advising on digital strategy, optimizing operations, or mentoring emerging leaders, these engagements deepen our understanding of inclusive transformation. They remind us that technology with a clear purpose, shaped by empathy and inclusion, is not just impactful, it becomes a driving force for meaningful and lasting transformation.

I joined ESC in 2021 out of a desire to give back. I was retired and looking for volunteer work that would allow me to use my experience to benefit others. With ESC I am able to do just that. ESC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping other nonprofit organizations through our consulting services. In a nutshell, we help people who help people. I enjoy the like-minded people I work with, and find myself growing and learning new skills with each project. Further, the time commitment is perfect. I do fulfilling work but have all the time I want to enjoy my retirement. It's a win for our clients, a win for ESC, and a win for me too.

I first became aware of ESC some 30 years ago while I was CFO at Children's Home & Aid (CHASI)- our CEO, Edwin Millard spoke highly of the organization back then - fast forward, Bob Wolf - a fellow VP at CHASI, joined ESC and recommended that I join as well.
Since joining, I’ve had the opportunity to assist and lead engagements that I feel have had an impact in moving not for profits forward - a great way to in some way, shape or form to remain relevant and contribute to help fill the void that neither the for profit or government sectors fill - a way to continue to make a difference!

When I retired, I wanted to find a meaningful way to give back, using the skills I’d developed throughout my career to make a difference in my larger community and beyond. For the first time in my life, I had actual free time I could choose how to use. While exploring different opportunities online, I came across the Executive Service Corps, and it turned out to be the perfect fit. I’ve been able to use my experience in strategic planning and leading large organizations to support organizations and causes I care deeply about. An unexpected and wonderful bonus has been meeting and working with other professionals who share the same passion for helping others and bring that same level of dedication to their volunteer work.

I enjoy being an ESC consultant for the opportunities to stay intellectually active and challenged, to join and work with a group of highly skilled and motivated individuals, and to give back to the larger Chicagoland community.

In my 18 months with Executive Service Corps, I’ve been energized by the opportunity to teach, consult, and coach alongside a team of talented, humble, and supportive professionals. ESC’s leadership is attentive, flexible, and provides a wealth of valuable learning materials, while our clients consistently appreciate the clear, affordable, and customized support we deliver. What makes the experience truly rewarding is the genuine two-way conversation with clients and colleagues alike, everyone is eager to share knowledge, listen deeply, and focus on impact rather than self-promotion. It’s a community that is not only effective but also inspiring and fun to be part of, and that’s why both clients and consultants keep coming back.

I joined ESC in 2017 shortly after I retired from my professional career. There are many things I enjoy about being part of ESC, but the two main areas that are most significant for me are:
-
I love helping non-profit organizations improve in a wide variety of areas of their operation.
-
On a personal level I was ready to retire from my career, but that does not mean I wanted to stop using my skills and experience and to stop learning.
Working with ESC allows me to help non-profits be better while continuing to utilize my skills and keep learning new things.

When I retired, I knew that I was going to need an engaging activity to keep myself occupied. A good friend said that I would be a good fit with ESC. I gave it a try and here I am 10 years later, thankful for his recommendation. I've spent the decade working with great ESC colleagues and helping wonderful not for profit corporations. In the end, I've been the primary beneficiary.

Working with The Executive Service Corps (ESC) offers a profoundly rewarding experience, as it allows you to assist non-profit organizations in discovering the essential components for a successful future and in constructing that organization. The incredibly talented and collegial community of ESC volunteers enhances this experience, providing a supportive and collaborative environment. Additionally, being involved with the diverse and powerful nonprofit organizations in the Chicago area, which are doing wonderful and important work, adds another layer of fulfillment and purpose to your efforts.
