Renaissance Social Services Inc. (RSSI)

Strategic Plan Client

The Nonprofit: RSSI is a unique organization that connects homeless individuals and families with disabilities to housing that is affordable, quality, and safe while providing supportive services that foster residential stability and self-sufficiency. Its mission is to end homelessness in Chicago through prevention, housing, and supportive services. Statistics show increasing need and increased competition for resources and funding.

The Need: A new strategic plan that advances the progress from previous plans and recognizes RSSI's growth direction and desire for organizational nimbleness and funding support in response to current and projected challenges.

ESC Solution: ESC and RSSI have an ongoing, strong relationship - at its center is an ESC consultant whose work with RSSI since 2006 has fostered a respect for, and deep understanding of, RSSI's leadership, mission, programs, current issues, and opportunities with consulting assistance and resources provided as needed in board development, fundraising, strategic planning, facilitation. ESC delivered:

  • Strategic planning that prioritized the resources needed to remain viable and advance RSSI's mission in a fast moving environment

  • Tactics built from successful strategic initiatives in the previous plan

  • Consensus building for future endeavors

  • A nimble plan that grows success and positions RSSI to obtain needed resources

Immediate tangible benefit: A progressive strategic plan that will sustain the organization's growth over the next two years with tactics for developing relationships and connections with the corporate community for support.

"Our work with ESC has helped us see how much we have grown and improved since our last ESC project, and has clarified our vision for the organization.

ESC has helped greatly improve our organizational structure and our ability to operate strategically, which has ultimately led to growth and improving the services we provide to the homeless...When we started working with ESC, RSSI had an ineffective board and revenues of just over $250,000.

Through working with ESC, we now have an active, vibrant board, revenues of over $2.5 million, and a solid foundation for continued growth. Thank you, ESC, for your dedication to RSSI."
