Biography of R. James Young, Jr.

 

RJ had a 35-year career with Allstate, beginning in 1971 when he graduated from college with a B.S. in Mathematics. Over time he became a Fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries while serving as Allstate’s lead actuary in their property and casualty business unit.

 

Over the years RJ was an Assistant Vice President in Sales, a Regional Vice President, Vice President of Pricing, Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, and the Chief Distribution Officer overseeing Allstate’s sales agencies throughout the U.S. and Canada. He was Chairman of Allstate Canada, Allstate New Jersey, Allstate Florida and an Allstate Bank Director.

 

Through his work as a consultant and engagement manager, RJ’s consulting experience has been diverse and has focused on a variety of nonprofit organizations and public agencies including Park Districts, Municipal Boards, and cause-based Nonprofit Agencies throughout Chicagoland.  Some of RJ's ESC clients include the Streamwood Park District, Bartlett Park District, Village of Streamwood, and Hanover Township. In addition, he is involved with Allstate Insurance Company through ESC’s Corporate Citizenship Connection (C3) Program. C3 enhances the effectiveness of corporate executives who serve on nonprofit boards, providing genuine value to the company and its executives, the nonprofits they care about, and the communities they serve. RJ has completed ESC training in Consulting, Board Development, Strategic Planning, Emergency Leadership Planning, Total Assessment, and Coaching. 

 

RJ has served as the President of the Rolling Meadows United Way and as a Director on the Barrington Area United Way. He has served in several roles with the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago over the years, and he’s also volunteered his time with Little City in Palatine, along with various senior citizens’ organizations. RJ served on the ESC Board of Directors for many years and was elected a Life Director in November 2016.

RJ lives in Inverness with his wife, Judy. They have three sons and five grandchildren. He has many interests that keep him busy including reading, traveling, biking, grandkids, golf, etc., and he loves and enjoys almost all Chicago sports teams.
