National Chief of Staff Executive Service

Search for National Healthcare Nonprofit located in the Greater Chicagoland Area



Mission & Vision: The National Healthcare organization leads the way in fighting a leading genetic cause of death for infants. We fund and direct comprehensive research that drives breakthroughs in treatment and care, and we provide families the support they need for today.

We currently have an opening for a Chief of Staff (relocation provided).


Position Summary:

Working outwardly with key stakeholders such as donors, families, and staff, leads the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan. This new role will oversee strategic business initiatives from development through successful execution in partnership with senior leadership. The Chief of Staff will guide fundraising and program growth in new local offices.



  • Understands the organization’s strategic plan, both its long-term and short-term implications

  • Leads the implementation of strategic plan initiatives

  • Provides leadership in organizational transformation as it moves to a decentralized local


  • Assist and communicate with executives in decision-making, program management, and

    initiative implementation

  • Review, design, and execute on improvements to organization structure, identify

    knowledge and skills gaps and help address them

  • Drives the change management process as the strategic plan is implemented.

  • Provides effective communication to the Board, management, and co-workers

  • Provides guidance and direction to direct reports, including setting performance standards

    and monitoring performance

  • Builds a network of contacts and resources with stakeholders to facilitate program

    implementation and build community presence with donors and partners

  • Assesses financial impact of various strategic initiatives

  • Travels extensively domestically to facilitate plan implementation

  • Establishes policies that promote mission, inclusivity, diversity, culture, security,

    professionalism and efficiency

  • Translates strategy into actionable goals for performance and achievement of mission.

  • Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve


Minimum Experience/Skills/Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s in non-profit management or a related degree.

  • At least 10 years of related operations experience

  • At least 5 years of direct supervisory experience

  • Demonstrated success in development

  • Demonstrated experience in both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Able and willing to travel extensively domestically

  • Able and willing to live and work in the greater Chicago area

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Desired Experience/Skills/Competencies:

  • Master’s degree in non-profit management or related degree

  • Experience in related non-profit organization operation and management

  • Project Management experience

  • Successful public speaking experience

  • Depth of knowledge of rare disease management and issues

  • Network of related contacts

  • Experience in localization of operations with multiple locations

  • Related certification in nonprofit management

  • Experience with strategic planning
